Here they are… fresh from Ingolstadt Germany, the 2017 Audi A5 and S5 coupes! And if you think they look a lot like the old ones, it’s because they do. The German automaker has just made them a little sharper, a little lighter, and with packed with a lot more tech!

Just like in today’s A5, you can expect to see a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder base engine. No official numbers have been released as of yet but we will more than likely see a similar power bump just as the refreshed A4 received.

It’s bigger, brawnier brother, the S5 Coupe, is where things get a little more interesting. Engine power has been increased to 354 hp. While torque figures aren’t available yet, but we can assume that we should see a small increase in torque. Bottom line is that the increase in power helps the 2017 Audi S5 reach 62 miles per hour just 4.7 seconds or a 0.2-second improvement over the current car’s 0-60 time.

Lastly on the engine front, we have been pouring over the press materials and our friends at Audi mention both gas and diesel engines. Sadly at the time of this release we should only expect the A5 to arrive in the US with petrol power only. But hopefully we will see the oil burners return once Volkswagen’s diesel case is resolved.

Switching gears, Audi will offer the A5 with both six-speed manuals and seven-speed dual-clutch transmissions. For the S5, Audi only mentions an eight-speed automatic to be offered at this time.

The original A5/S5 was great looking machine, but Audi’s team of designers done a really great job styling the 2017 model while keeping true to its original DNA. The new corporate grille seems to work very well paired with a more aggressive hood on the front of the car, further refining its appearance. The rear of the car is also very appealing with standard LED taillights and a wide profile. In short, the updated design is better looking, lighter and more aerodynamic.

Inside, it’s business as usual. Audi consistently creates some of the most stylish and high-quality interiors in the market. Materials such as metal, leather, and suede, with special attention given to the center console we notice Audi’s new T-handle shifter. Of course we can’t forget, Audi’s new optional (must have) Virtual cockpit. Hi-def visuals appear in the center gauge cluster, with configurable layouts that allow the driver to explore the navigation system maps, Audi’s MMI infotainment system, and vehicle info without taking their eyes too far off the road.

The A5 and S5 will also receive the same handful of near-autonomous features that come in the Q7 SUV, including active lane assist, stop-and-go cruise control, park assist, cross-traffic assist, exit warning and more. It also has cameras that recognize traffic signs.

The 2017 A5 and S5 is expected to launch in Europe this fall; expect them here shortly after. The current A5 starts at $40,500, while the S5 stickers for $53,000. We expect the next version to not stray too far from that. We can wait to get our hands on Audi’s new toys!
