Just looking at this gorgeous convertible has us thinking beachy thoughts. Car enthusiasts got an early treat yesterday when the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet debuted a week ahead of the Geneva auto show. The design was hardly a mystery as Mercedes has already shown the 2018 E-Class Coupe. The E-Class Cabrio is virtually identical apart from its roof, which like on the outgoing model is an automated folding soft-top. However, a feature that is slightly unsuspected: Mercedes is offering up a 4Matic model. The all-wheel drive is optional, which is a first for this car. Questionable weather won’t be an issue with this convertible. Convertible-specific additions include Airscarf, which puts heating vents in the headrests to keep one’s neck toasty. Aircap utilizes two electric wind deflectors in the windshield and behind the rear seats to keep the wind at bay. An optional package adds warmers to the armrests, center console and steering wheel, because one can never be too warm.
Like the E-Class sedan, coupe, and wagon, the cabriolet has grown in size. It’s now 5.0 inches longer, 2.9 inches wider, and 1.4 inches taller than its predecessor while also expanding 4.4 inches in the wheelbase. Up front, you’ll notice the Mercedes diamond-block grille, and in the rear slim taillights contribute to a sleeker rear design.
Power comes from a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6, which puts out 329 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. Whether AWD or RWD, power makes its way to the ground via a nine-speed automatic transmission. Air suspension is optional. Top speed is electronically limited to 130 mph. Pricing is not yet announced.
