The Porsche motorsports department in Weissach has been hard at work further refining the 911 GT3 Rennsport, a high-performance sports car based on the 911 GT3. The latest generation GT3 RS, has been updated throughout but lets start with the heart and soul of this track weapon, the engine.

Located in the rear of the car you will find a normally aspirated 4.0 liter flat-six that produces 520 horsepower and 346 pound-feet of torque. With its increase of 20 additional horsepower over the previous generation GT3 RS, this is now the most powerful naturally aspirated power plant that has ever been installed in a 911.

Combined with a specially calibrated seven-speed PDK transmission, the 2019 911 GT3 RS can to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in only 3.2 seconds, and reaching a top speed of 312 km/h all while gloriously revving to 9,000 rpm through an all new lightweight titanium exhaust. Music to our ears.

Chassis technology is streight from Porsche motorsports. Lessons learned on the track have yeilded a recalibrated rear-wheel steering system, along with solid ball joints on each suspension arm for additional steering precision.

Lightweight wheels measure 20 inch on the front axle wrapped with a newly developed 265/35 sport tire. This will increase steering feel and overall agility. The rear receives 21 inch wheels, and a 325/30 tires. With this massive footprint, improved handling and traction are a given.

Visually, the 2019 911 GT3 RS has received a suttle massage but its aerodynamics have ultimately influenced the design of the wide, weight-optimized body. The front end receives an updated 991.2 generation GT3 front bumper which is optimized for increased cooling as well as a new hood design that features two NACA style ducts which channel air into the brake system to keep things cooler under braking.

The side intake ducts have also a light revision, they are in fact slightly larger than its predecessor but the “air flow” guides are merely an aesthetic. Andreas Preuninger explains that it was originally intended to add the RS logo to the duct design but with the reintroduction of the classic Porsche RS sticker on both sides of the vehicle, it looked a bit busy with RS logo everywhere. The design team stepped in and created this “air flow” design as an elegant solution.

At the rear, you will notice a new light weight engine lid with a new rigid rear wing. The wing uprights have been modified, and the wing has newly shaped end-plates enabling Porsche’s RS variant to provide double the down force compared to a standard GT3.

Inside, the interior is speced with carbon fiber bucket seats, lighweight door panels and door pulls and a reduction in sound insulation helps contribute to an overall decrease in weight.

Now that the basics are out of the way lets talk options. For particularly ambitious drivers, Porsche motorsport has developed the optional Weissach Package. Since the Weissach package was first offered in similar form for the Porsche 918 Spyder it has stood for a consistent lightweight construction and for the closest possible proximity to motorsport. The package features additional carbon components for the chassis, interior and exterior as well as optional magnesium wheels. The bolt-in roll cage is made of titanium and is 26 lbs. lighter than the steel roll cage of the Clubsport package. In its lightest configuration this package reduces the weight of the 911 GT3 RS down another 40 pounds.
