Lifetime’s redo of the hit tearjerker Beaches is ready to soar. Uncle Buck’s Nia Long is set to play Hillary, the straight-laced lawyer originated by Barbara Hershey, opposite Idina Menzel, who steps into Bette Midler’s role as free-spirited singer CC in the story of two very different girls who become lifelong friends. Midler tweeted that she “can’t wait to see Idina Menzel as CC!” The Frozen star who’ll also record a new version of the 1988 original’s Grammy-winning “Wind Beneath My Wings,” may be feeling the pressure. She responded to Midler, “I hope we do right by you!”
Lifetime will air Beaches sometime in 2017.
