Are you familiar with artist Keith Haring? Haring’s work is devoted to the legacy of 1980s New York based graffiti and visual artist. Haring’s work was often heavily political and his imagery has become a widely recognized visual language of the 20th century. Haring was an American artist and social activist whose work responded to the New York City street culture of the 1980s by expressing concepts of birth, death, sexuality, and war.

In a period – the eighties – that consciously rejected the grand narratives that had guided human action over the last two centuries, Haring represented the Zeitgeist, the spirit of the time: he was a true artist of the moment, and lived his life with the same intensity and originality as the era with which he will forever be identified. -Gianni Mercurio

Keith Haring’s monochrome work from 1985 (pictured above), last offered at auction 25 years ago, is on view in Sotheby’s London galleries ahead of the March 2 Sotheby’s Contemporary sale. This artwork is signed with the artist’s monogram and dated April 12 1985 on the reverse acrylic on board. The estimate for this piece of art is $121,480 – $182,220.
